Keuka College Performances to Benefit the Benedicts

Upcoming Keuka College on-campus performances of the one-woman play “Traveling With A Broken Compass” will now serve as fundraisers for the Benedicts.

Admittance to the play – scheduled for Saturday, Nov. 18, at 7:30 p.m. and Sunday, Nov. 19, at 2 p.m. in the College’s Red Barn Theatre – will still be free. But donations will be accepted at the door to assist Dexter and Faith.

If you’re unable to attend these performances, you can mail a check (made payable to Dexter and Faith Benedict) to: Linda Starkweather, 49 East Ave., Naples, NY 14512.

Dexter, professor emeritus of art, and Faith, like her husband a former teacher at the College, were, thankfully, unharmed in the Nov. 1 fire. But they lost not only their studio but many tangible pieces of their life’s work.

The decision by Naples performer Linda Starkweather to transform her one-woman show into a rallying point for the Benedicts is not only appreciated but appropriate – using the arts to generate assistance for artists.

Here’s another example: The Arts Center of Yates County is collecting tools – tape measures, screwdrivers, drills and the like – to create a tool kit for the Benedicts. Tools may be dropped off at the Arts Center, 127 Main St. in Penn Yan.

We know the College and larger community will take advantage of these unique opportunities to provide support to such beloved members of our College family.
