There are so many things that press upon us, demanding our attention, our action, we are often overwhelmed or at a loss as to where to direct our attention and energy. We often turn from one tragedy or challenge to another and never have the time or focus to affect any real change. Last month the choir sang
“Come and find the quiet center in the crowded life we lead, find the room for hope to enter, find the frame where we are freed: clear the chaos and the clutter, clear our eyes, that we can see all the things that really matter, be at peace, and simply be.”*

In order to make a real difference, we need to take the time to clear the “chaos and clutter” from our hearts and minds, to put aside our frantic doing, and, in the quiet, to find the things that really matter and that we can give aid to for the building of a better community and world. We need the space to find the vision, the faith, and the hope we need to create the world that Jesus calls us to. In this Lent season, may we find the “quiet center” where we can be effective disciples of Life and Love.
