Self Help Sewing
The Presbyterian Church in Geneva
24 Park Place Geneva NY 14456
The autumn session of Self-Help Sewing class will be from September 13 to November 15. This program has been teaching area residents to sew for many years. There is no charge, and sewing machines are available to use here at the church.
A coffee break is held mid-morning. Students and teachers take turns bringing a “healthy” snack.
Students make whatever they want. Several years ago there was an earthquake in Haiti, and our class members made dresses for children there. One of the members makes bright-colored children’s pillowcases and donates them to Golisano Children’s Hospital. Another project was to make aprons from men’s shirts. Several people made these, but one member found inexpensive shirts and took a bundle of aprons to a cancer event where she sold them and gave the profits to the Cancer Society.
Students come from Canandaigua, Newark, Waterloo, Penn Yan, and other places as well as Geneva.
We can always use teachers. Especially this year we need a new coordinator-organizer. These people do not need to be members of The Presbyterian Church.
