Ah, Autumn…

As the blazing heat of summer subsides, life changes its pace and settles into the refreshing coolness of Autumn. The color of leaves begins to turn, kids go back to school, there is an earthy smell in the air…

Children’s Choir

Welcome Children!

Children’s Choir will begin rehearsals during Sunday School on September 20. We’re scheduled to sing in church this fall on October 11 and November 22. We’re fortunate to have Mrs. Jones accompany us on the piano again this year. Lisa Gage, our new director, is a deacon at church and teaches English 11 and 12 at Geneva High School. Ms. Gage loves to volunteer, golf, and cheer on her students at sporting events, plays and concerts.

Greetings Church Family

“With all creation one song we raise: ‘Soli Deo gloria!’”

Greetings church family! It is so exciting to be starting this fall as your new Music Director and while it is not something I had planned, it comes as a welcome joy to work with you in this capacity. I can still remember walking into church with my white chorister’s robe on sometime before I was 6 years old and I have been in church music in some capacity since. It is home to be singing and leading music in praise to God.

Fall Gathering at Camp Whitman

Presbyterian Women will host the Fall Gathering at Camp Whitman on Wednesday, September 16, 2015.

PW Invites You to Assist on Rally Day

Presbyterian Women invite you to assist with a Mission Project on Rally Day. The Geneva Food Pantry sometimes serves homeless people who are given emergency housing in local motels. They have small refrigerators and microwave ovens.  Last year we made over 80 Kitchen Kits for the Geneva Food Pantry to help these people prepare the food provided to them. The most important thing? A can opener!

From the Parish Nurse

Dear Church Family,

The Merriam-Webster Dictionary defines a caregiver as “a person who provides direct care (as for children, elderly people, or the chronically ill).” In my experience, that definition is sadly lacking. People that I know who are caregivers pour their hearts and souls into caring for others. They frequently give up their own wants and needs to care for someone else they love.

September 2015 Preaching Schedule

Wisdom Literature in the New Testament:
The Epistle of James
Sunday Scriptures Sermon
September 6 Labor Day
Proverbs 22:17-23 “James: Wisdom Works Like This”
James 2:1-17

From the Pastor – September 2015

James 1:17-27 17Every generous act of giving, with every perfect gift, is from above”

This fall I will continue to preach from the Biblical wisdom literature. Many appreciated my choice to leave the common lectionary and organize a Summer Sermon Series on the Psalms and Proverbs. So, I will continue preaching a Sermon Series in September on the Epistle of James, also considered to be wisdom literature in the New Testament.   One of the common themes of James is “faith by itself, if it has no works, is dead” (James 2:17). Jesus often liberated people from their sins with the simple command, “Go, your faith has made you whole/well”. There seems to be no responsibility to the community. But, James and the leaders of the early Jerusalem church observed an apathy in the saved 1st century Christian. “Saved by grace” is the beginning of life as a Christian, not the end. James asks boldly, “What are you doing with your faith?”

Sanctuary Acoustics

On September 13, Rally Sunday, Mr. Dan Prusinowski of Aurora Acoustical Consultants will be conducting tests during our Sunday morning service to determine recommendations for solving our acoustical problems.
Please take a look at their website. We have had several referrals to this firm with glowing reports of their knowledge.
