Here we go. Starting in September we will journey together towards, in the words of Brian D. McLaren, “spiritual formation, reorientation, and activation”. We will share a yearlong worship series that will guide us towards a fuller understanding of the wisdom of Scripture and a clearer direction on how best to follow Jesus. One of the earliest descriptions for the disciples was that they were “followers of The Way”. We have a chance to seek this Way together.
I am so looking forward to walking with you in this first full program year of my ministry here. We will share, and I will learn, many of the beloved traditions of this community. I have heard that Pretzel Sunday, Pancake Supper, Cantata Sunday, Pageant Sunday, the Talent Show, the Strawberry Festival, Hanging of the Greens, Lenten Breakfasts etc. are all great events I will get to experience. I am also so looking forward to the new experiences and opportunities we will get to create together in this time: new moments in worship, new community connections, new service opportunities, new members and friends, new understandings of the Living Word, new life.
As we enter a season unlike any we have lived in before, please seek to delight is what has been, enjoy what is, and participate in what is becoming. Friends, we will make this road by walking it together. It is good to know Jesus has a habit of meeting us on The Way.
“If a spiritual community only points back to where it has been or if it only digs in its heels where it is now, it is a dead end or a parking lot, not a “way”. To be a living tradition, a living way, it must forever open itself forward and forever remain unfinished – even as it forever cherishes and learns from the growing treasury of its past.” – Brian D McLaren (We Make the Road by Walking)
