Lent 2019 – A Season of Spiritual Renewal

Seneca Lake Spirit (taken by DDL)

What renews your spirit? A stroll beside the lake rejuvenates me even on a cold day such as the one pictured. Even the photo on my phone gives me a spiritual pause, a breath prayer with no words.

During the season of Lent (March 6- April 19) Christians are encouraged to pause for prayer, study, reflection and transformation.  The Presbyterian Church in Geneva has many spiritual opportunities to connect with God and each other. The Friday Soup and Supper has begun studying the Gospel of Luke.  Wednesday Lenten Breakfasts have lineup of community ministers leading worship and great cooks.

We will follow the Lenten devotional theme of meditation on Psalms using visuals, “Awakening to God’s Beauty”. Meditation and praying using the scriptures is called “Lectio Divina or “Listening for the Holy”. The lesser known “Vizio Divina” is a spiritual discipline of “Seeing the Holy”.  We will explore these ancient but very modern Spiritual Disciplines as we take time for the Holy in our lives.

If you are interested the daily devotional, “Awakening to God’s Beauty-A Lenten invitation to pray with art”, you may pick one up in the office. They are free if you subscribe to “The Presbyterian Today” magazine. We have a limited amount so please contact Colleen so we can order more if need.  Otherwise you may purchase the devotional on www. pcusastore.com.
